We get it. Life gets complicated. Photos of family, travel, work, and achievements that were easy to find when we took them can get lost in the shuffle. Locating them again means remembering we have them, finding where they’re stored, and making sure we have the right equipment to access them. Let’s take a look at Mylio’s many features.

Organize Everything

Life Calendar: Dates and Events

Life is made of moments. Mylio helps you efficiently organize your image library by synchronizing it with your digital calendars. The result is a beautiful calendar of your life, viewable by decades, years, months and days. Connect your Outlook, iCal or Google Calendar and Mylio automatically groups your images and videos based on those events.

Click an event title to re-experience the memories so you don’t have to find photos from your niece’s birthday by hand anymore. Life Calendar makes finding specific moments efficient. Mylio can display all events from your imported calendars or only those events that have images associated with them.

Map View: Locations

We travel to experience life in different ways, and those experiences become some of our most treasured moments. New foods, new friends, new perspectives – Mylio lets you easily relive them all by grouping your geotagged photos into a Map View. Imagine having a visual record of every place you’ve taken photos? And all the places you haven’t taken photos can go on your bucket list of places to visit.

Today, most cameras and smartphones tag photos with GPS location information. Mylio uses this information to display your photo library on a world map, allowing you to browse memories by location. Mylio even lets you add location information to your photos by dragging pictures to locations on the map, forever connecting your memories to where they happened. With Mylio, your photos and videos become a map of your life, sorted by location and easily accessible in your pocket.

People View: Face Recognition

Many of the best memories revolve around the people you love and the special relationships you build. Mylio’s Face Recognition automatically finds important people you photograph with an intelligent facial search that recognizes each person through the many stages of life.  The smart software automatically finds the people you tagged and named in your existing library and creates unique albums for each of them. It also groups faces you have not yet identified so you can quickly tag them in batches using the bulk tagging feature.

With Mylio People View, you can review and tag faces individually, or in bulk, tagging undetected faces, or ignoring faces you don’t want to tag.

Fast Find

With the intuitive organization of People View, Life Calendar, and Map View, your photos are organized so you can find the right one quickly. For people who want to add extra layers of personalization, there are also folders, albums, ratings, and metadata you can customize as well.

View by Folders and Albums

What if you have already spent significant time organizing your photos into folders and don’t want to have to start over on a new platform? Mylio respects that and allows you to import not only your folders but your file structure as well. Likewise, if you add, change, move, or delete anything using the file browser on your computer, Mylio will detect the changes immediately and synchronize them to all your devices.

Albums enable you to create collections of photos and videos without affecting the folder structure. One photo can be in multiple albums without creating any duplicates or wasting valuable drive space. You can remove a file from an album without deleting the actual file from your library.

Accessing everything in a way that’s intuitive for you makes it efficient to find exactly what you’re looking for whenever you want it.

Ratings, Labels, and Flags (Oh My!)

We take pictures for many different reasons, from capturing and preserving the memories of a family vacation to reminders of where we parked at the airport. In other words, not all images are equal. Mylio makes it easy to highlight your best and most important files using Ratings, Labels, and Flags. Once you have marked an image, Mylio will showcase your favorite images on the covers of folders and in your Life Calendar. You can also filter any view to show only files you have marked as important. Of course, the Ratings, Labels, and Flags will synchronize across devices.

  • Ratings are a ranking system. Rank your images from 0 to 5 stars.
  • Labels of different colors can be added to any file, and you can decide what each color represents in your own library. Consider designating one color for family, one color for work, and one color for food!
  • Flags can be easily set as on or off, and are often used to mark the files you want to get back to later.

While you rank, flag and label your favorite images, you make them easier to find. Mylio’s global ranking system automatically updates the covers of dates, folders, and albums to show what matters most to you in every view.

Metadata Made Simple

Photos have the ability to remind us of special places, times, and people in our lives. Modern cameras and smartphones enhance this ability by adding details to photos and videos as metadata, so you can see information like date, time, location, keywords, and people tags. Mylio helps you take full advantage of the metadata in your photos and uses it to automatically organize your collection.

However, sometimes the information in your files is inaccurate or incomplete, especially for older photos. Mylio allows you to view, edit and add to this information, so you can better tell your story with your media. For instance, when scanning older printed photographs, slides or negatives, you may want to manually add the date and location of the photo. Mylio lets you add or adjust the date of your files to match when the original image was taken. You can also copy and paste coordinates from other photos or search for a location and use it as the geo-tag. Want to pull up a bunch of childhood photos? Enter the address on the Mylio map to efficiently surface all of those memories.

Keywords allow you to associate images and files with each other by describing what you know about the image. Do you photograph birds? Add the names of bird species found in each image as keywords to easily find similar bird pictures later using a simple search.

Combine all your data into unique searches or filters. Want a calendar of just your travel adventures? Mylio can do that. Want to see your favorite foodie pics on a map?  Mylio’s got you covered.

Finally, all your recent digital shots and even scans from your personal history can share the same richness of information, becoming one stunning and detailed story of your life. And now with Mylio, all that data is always with you, on every device, everywhere you go.

Edit and Share

Mylio makes it easy and fun to edit your images so you can share the best of the best with anyone, from any device, anytime.

Adjust for Redeye

If you take pictures with a flash, chances are you have some pictures where the subject’s pupils are bright red, turning a good picture into a horror story. Mylio’s smart redeye removal tool makes it fast and easy to make more natural-looking pictures.

Auto-Enhance and Filters

Filters (or presets) are collections of edits that can be quickly applied to one or more images, creating a variety of natural and unique looks. You can use Mylio’s library of default filters, like B&W or Exposure+1, or create and save your own. Auto Enhance is our most popular filter for enhancing the light and definition of any image. All filters, including ones you’ve created, can be applied to multiple images at once, which means editing a large set of photos take only a few seconds. All your edits and filters are saved into your library, syncing to all your devices without altering the original image. This means you can remove the filters and apply new ones over and over again until you have the perfect look, all while preserving the original image forever.

Our Histogram lets you see real-time analysis of your edits, allowing you to precisely adjust your image to perfection, all without changing the original file.

Exporting and Sharing

After organizing and editing your collection with Mylio, you’ll definitely find memory treasures worth sharing. The export tool helps you prepare final versions of your files for sharing, offering control over the file name, image quality, metadata and more on any number of files, albums or folders. Choose a destination on your computer, or share to your favorite apps. Mylio also taps into your device’s sharing capabilities for a seamless flow with all the ways you’re already accustomed to working with your images. And if you’re receiving shared photos on your mobile devices, you can easily add those to your Mylio library with just a few taps.

Sync and Protect

Protect What Matters

Mylio protects your photos in multiple ways.  First, Mylio syncs images across multiple devices. This means you don’t lose any photos even if one device gets lost, broken, or stolen.

In Mylio, you can also set up a Vault to back up your files and library details. Original files are backed up automatically, preventing the loss that can happen when one of our devices or drives is damaged, lost or stolen. You can choose the type of Vault you want: an external drive, a desktop computer or a cloud service like Amazon or Google Drive. Want more redundancy? Set up multiple Vaults and Mylio will keep them all synchronized and your files protected – even across multiple remote locations.

Privacy or Convenience? Mylio Gives You Both

Other photo library managers like Google Photos, Apple Photos, Adobe Lightroom CC and even Facebook all offer access and convenience by storing your pictures and videos on their servers in the cloud. Their servers become the primary storage location for your images while your devices are granted access to log in and view your data. When we use a Cloud service, we are given assurances that our data is private, but the fact is you have no ability to confirm or control what these companies do with your data. Essentially, cloud-based photo library managers are offering convenience while putting your ability to know and control where your files are and who has access to information about them at risk.

Mylio resolves this problem. With Mylio, your photos are stored on your devices so you have complete control of them; if you want to add a cloud to store your photos, Mylio gives you the option to encrypt them so the cloud service can’t see your personal information. With Mylio, you get the best of both worlds.

Travel Perks

Mylio gives travelers (or anyone busy on the move) a number of unique benefits because your devices automatically sync and your photos.

Manage Anywhere

Mylio gives users the freedom to manage their photos anywhere. Installing Mylio on your smartphone or tablet gives you full control of your photo library at any time, even without the internet. That means you can edit photos while on a flight, organize photos at the doctor’s office, or compare photos with other backpackers. When you get back to wifi, any changes you made to your Mylio library will automatically sync with the rest of your Mylio-enabled devices.

Save Storage Space

Mylio saves storage space on your mobile devices by storing your photo originals elsewhere. You still get smaller versions (previews or thumbnails) on your mobile, while your originals are stored on a device with more space. This gives you the benefits of accessing any photo on mobile AND being able to take more photos. Mylio even creates smart connections between your devices so they sync without the internet. This means you’re optimizing space even when you’re on a plane or in the wilderness without access to Wi-Fi. That’s all to say Mylio protects you and enables access to your images when a cloud-based system can’t be accessed.

In short, Mylio is a revolutionary new way to easily organize, find, and protect the images that define our lives.

Essentials for organizing your digital photos

Here are the essential products and services I have come to rely on for many years to keep my media collection organized and safe. Even though these are affiliate links, I wholeheartedly recommend them.

Excellent Lightroom and Picasa alternative. If you need a cheaper and simpler photo manager then ACDSee Photo Studio for Mac (save 50% until Nov 8th) or ACDSee Photo Studio Professional for Windows (new version) is my preferred solution for organizing all my media. It has a very fast browser, great image editing and it's simple to use.

If you do a lot of image editing like I do, I recommend using Adobe Lightroom Classic CC via the annual Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. Lightroom has best photo editing capabilities even though it comes with a steeper learning curve. If you do image editing, Adobe Lightroom is my favorite.

I recommend Backblaze Personal Cloud Backup for affordable & reliable unlimited cloud backup. I have been using Backblaze for backing up all pictures & videos for more than 5 years now. All my invaluable digital memories are safe and secure. This is the best solution especially if you have a large quantity of media files.

Use a reliable & affordable external hard drive for backing up everything on your computer. It is absolutely essential for keeping all your memories backed up and safe.
